Events

BFD Productions produces a series of film festivals and events throughout the year.
Here is a shortlist of our most recent happenings.

The LES Film Festival Crew headed by Creators Damon Cardasis & Shannon Walker, as well as the creative team of Tony Castle & Roxy Hunt, have created a film festival aimed at featuring the work of talented filmmakers on a budget, and showcasing those films in the heart of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. In its inaugural year, the LES crew was able to turn the humble storefront space of Grand Opening, into a 20 day long film festival extravaganza (with an additional 2 days added), that included intriguing Q&A talks with filmmakers, BYOB party goers, and a truly a unique and intimate experience, that culminated in a sold out event every night!

Vimeo Offline, presented by Vimeo and BFD Productions is hosted each month, at SPiN New York, a ping pong social club in the Flatiron district.  The festival was created as a way to help extend the filmmaking community found on vimeo.com.  BFD became invovled after seeking an outlet to create a film festival rooted in New York City with an world wide interest.  Vimeo Offline was the perfect match.  Now developing the festival, as a partnership, Vimeo and BFD Productions host the event each month developing a theme for the screening and selecting films found on vimeo to be screened in an hour long showcase.  Filmmakers and film lovers alike, come together to the eat, drink, laugh, cry, mingle, and yes, play ping pong.

The Big Freakin’ Deal Film Festival is a completely student run, student founded film festival that takes place every April at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Created by students in 2008, the BFD is dedicated to showing student films and promoting student filmmakers through a glitzy, Academy Award style, over-the-top red carpet event, complete with paparazzis, a musical number to open the show, and extravagant awards. The films are judged by professionals in the film industry of Boulder and Denver. The top 3 films in each category screen on the last night of the festival in “The Big Show,” and the highest scoring film from each category is awarded a prize. Each year “The Big Show,” takes place at the historic Old Main Chapel Theater, with an after party to follow. In its third year, on April 11th-12th 2010, The Big Freakin’ Deal Film Festival was “Bollywood” themed, with film lectures on Bollywood, Bollywood dancers, 3D special effects, and a live Bollywood band.

BFD Productions directs and produces the Award Show Ceremony held on the last night of The Vail Film Festival each year.  The event has featured Kevin Smith, Jane Seymour, Adrian Grenier, Michelle Monaghan, Zach Braff and many other filmmakers and actors.

BFD Productions created and hosted Vail Film Festival’s first 48 hour film contest.  Durring Vail Film Fest 2008, filmmakers were challanged to create a film, start to finish, in a 48 hour time frame.  The films were screened at Vail Film Festival and, based on audience votes, the winner was announced and the Award Ceremonies, along side the other Vail FIlm Festival winners.
